May-25-2008 By Jace - 5,591 views

I came across this amazing artists site, she calls herself Sketchy Sam, and she does some of the most amazing drawings I have ever seen. I don’t even need to write much, as her work completely speaks for herself. I found some contact information for her, so if you ever wanted an awesome Christmas or Mothers Day gift, you found it! Drop her a line at sam@sketchysam or just check out her site at http://www.sketchysam.com or her blog at http://www.sketchysam.com/index.php

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. Don’t you just hate junk mail?

May-16-2008 By Jace - 212 views

Do you hate junk mail, not junk email, but actual physical junk mail in your mailbox at home? I know I do!

I found this site a few days ago and I am REALLY impressed. You know that phone number you can call and get your phone number removed from telemarketers calling lists? Well, this is just like it, but for your home mailbox! I was able to sign up and click STOP on so many offers that constantly appear in my mailbox every day, the biggest one being that damn ValPak envelope. You know, every now and then I need carpet cleaning, but not so much that I get 20 coupons for it every week in my mailbox!

Anyway, head on over to ProQuo and check out what they have there, you won’t be let down.

Want to know some of the crap you get stopped? ValPal, PennySaver, Money Mailer and WhitePages.com are just a few of them. Here is a great part I just noticed too, you can click on Catalogs and choose if you want to recieve or not recieve tons of catalogs they have in their database, hell, I even signed up to get a few of them cause I hadn’t ever heard of them before!

Anyway, here you go, check it out for yourself www.proquo.com

I didn’t know it until about a year after getting my Treo and I felt like a total idiot. I have always wanted a GPS and had no idea that a phone could even begin to fill the need that I didn’t know was there, haha.

I figured it out when I was in Austin visiting a buddy of mine down in that unbearably hot city, we invited this roadie guy from a pretty famous band who also happens to be one of my childhood friends. Anyway, while we are there we notice he has this little thingy attached to his keychain that kept blinking, and me being the gadget freak I am I just had to know. He explained that it was his GPS, and of course I am like, “HUH?”…haha

Anyway, what it boils down to is this, when you have a phone such as the Palm Treo 700p, which is what I have, you can get this little box that connects to your phone via the bluetooth connection, and what this box does is connect to the GPS satellites. To make it all work together you have to have the little SD card that Tomtom supplies, and when it all syncs up and starts working you see this:

Now, this is where it all gets good…I was surely expecting some sort of monthly fee to use this marvelous device and connect to all these satellites that orbit the earth providing me with directions, but NO! The basic service is totally free, 100% no money needed!

So, let’s break this down. You will end up paying about $100 all together for the whole setup, meaning the SD card and the GPS bluetooth thingy, and that is ALL you will ever pay, EVER….haha. Well, not really, if you want to take advantage of the “traffic” feature I think you will end up paying like $5 a month or something silly, but I never used that and never saw a need for it really, most of my driving is here in Atlanta and I know all the back roads very well. Plus, we tomtom being such great software you can tell it to reroute instantly when you hit a traffic jam.

Anyway, enough rambling on and on and on, here is what the total set up will look like, I personally don’t have the little arm thing that holds the Treo, I am fine with it on my lap for the most part:

There are a few places you can get the whole shebang together, but I have found ebay to be the best out of them all. Like I said, I got it all for $100 total cost with shipping, but here are a few places I have found it

Tomtom Palm Treo combo on Ebay

But if you are someone that has to have everything brand new, then here is:

Why I love Blockbuster Online more than Netflix

May-13-2008 By Jace - 187 views

So, when I had the chance to switch from Netflix to Blockbuster Online I didn’t do it, I thought “why bother?”, it seemed like the exact same service and just an overall hassle to go through the process again. Then I saw an ad that seemed to good to be true, it stated that I could use the movies I was going to send in through the mail, take them to the store instead, and exchange them for free in store rentals….ok, that is hard to believe. The ad also mentioned a free 2 week trial, so….What the hell, I gave it a try.

I got my first 3 movies, watched them that night, sealed up the envelopes and took them down to the Blockbuster. I get to the counter with my 3 envelopes and 3 new releases from the store, hand him my card and I was out the door in less than 1 minute with new movies from the store……But wait, It doesn’t end there!

By the time I get home and check my email, I had already received 3 notices in my inbox that says “Blockbuster has recieved *INSERTMOVIENAMEHERE*, your new movies are on the way”!!!!

So, let’s break everything down. With Netflix I was lucky to get 3-5 movies a week, not to mention they have their infamous “throttling” system (which I have only heard about, but pretty sure I have experienced). With Blockbuster I am NOW getting at least 9 movies a week to watch, and for any avid movie watcher this is KICKASS!

So, yes, this is why I love Blockbuster Online, because they KICK ASS!
